As we move towards a new phase and the prospect of change , it is important to remember why we exist, our vision and purpose.
For New Horizons for Women Trust: Hine Kahukura, this is supporting the education pathways and aspirations of women, and we know that with education comes opportunities and choice.
Our 2023 award round confirmed that our new strength-based approach and changes to the application process worked well, with overwhelming support from applicants for the simplified format.
Well over 700 eligible applications were received and assessed by panels, evidence of a huge demand and need for the awards we offer, especially for those women who struggle financially and are studying, holding down part time jobs as well as raising children. Many of you have also travelled this well-worn pathway.
Our 2024 challenge as an organisation, is to increase the range and number of awards we offer.
I encourage you to think about sponsoring or contributing to an award. It will make such a difference. If you need further convincing, come to one of our award ceremonies in February and March! The stories of how recipients have overcome barriers to achieving their educational aspirations never fails to inspire us to do more.
As we enter the festive season, many not for profit organisations are facing unprecedented demand for services as cost-of-living increases impact on whānau across Aotearoa.
I encourage you all to give of your time and money if you can. Our organisation could not deliver its awards programme without volunteers, sponsors, and donors. On behalf of New Horizons for Women Trust: Hine Kahukura, our gratitude, and thanks for your continued and valued support.
Meri Kirihimete and best wishes for the festive season
